Frequently Asked Questions

Getting Started

What is Oriveo?

Oriveo is a multi-model AI client with two modes: Oriveo Free and BYOK. Oriveo Free is a limited free tier. Requests in Oriveo Free are relayed through the Oriveo server and may be shared with third-party model services to generate responses.

Is Oriveo free?

Oriveo Free has limited quota and safety controls. To run the service, we keep minimum records required for quota enforcement, abuse prevention, stability protection, and audit. If you prefer direct provider billing, you can switch to your own API key (BYOK) at any time.

How do I get API keys?

Visit each provider's website to create an account and generate an API key. For example, go to platform.openai.com for OpenAI, or console.anthropic.com for Anthropic. Once you have a key, add it in Oriveo's Provider settings.

API Keys & Security

Where are my API keys stored?

Your API keys never leave your device. Each platform uses its own built-in secure storage to keep your keys safe. They are never transmitted to our servers, never logged, and never shared with anyone.

Providers & Models

Which AI providers are supported?

Oriveo supports OpenAI, Anthropic, Google, OpenRouter, Groq, Together AI, Fireworks AI, MiniMax, Z.ai, Qwen, SiliconFlow, and Relay (custom OpenAI-compatible endpoints).

Account & Data

Do I need an account to use Oriveo?

No. Guest mode lets you start chatting immediately without creating an account. An account is only needed if you want cloud sync or multi-device access.

How does cost tracking work?

Oriveo calculates the cost of every message in real time based on each model's published token pricing. You see exactly how much each conversation costs — no surprises.

Is my chat data synced to the cloud?

By default, all chat data stays on your device first. If you enable cloud sync, conversation metadata, folders, the Skills directory, Memory, and your preferences sync through Firebase Firestore so you can continue across devices, while attachments upload to your account partition in Firebase Cloud Storage. Message bodies do not go to the cloud by default; they are uploaded only when you explicitly create an encrypted backup protected with end-to-end AES-256 encryption. You can export your data at any time, or delete your account to remove all server-side records in one step.

Troubleshooting

API Key Not Working

Verify that you copied the full API key without extra spaces. Check that the key has not expired or been revoked on the provider's dashboard. Make sure you have billing enabled and sufficient credits with the provider. Try removing the key in Oriveo and re-adding it.

Model Unavailable or Errors

Some models require specific account tiers or regional availability. Check the provider's status page for outages. If you see rate-limit errors, wait a moment and try again, or switch to a different model. Ensure your API key has access to the model you selected.

Sync Issues

Cloud sync requires an Oriveo account. Make sure you are signed in on all devices. If sync appears stuck, try signing out and back in. Sync only transfers conversation metadata — chat content stays local unless you create an encrypted backup.
